1) Properly sighting the
opening
There are a couple of things to take into account
with sighting the opening. The first thing to take into
account is the opening should be placed at least 40mm
back from the worktop edge, however if the worktop is
over 600mm in depth then the opening should be placed
further back but no more than 100mm. Next place the
template onto the worktop and tape it into position to
stop it moving and draw an outline around it.
2) Cutting the opening
After the opening has been marked out it is time to
cut it out. First remove the template and drill a hole
in each corner with an 8.4mm drill. Using a jigsaw,
start at one of the holes and on the inside of the line
cut along the line using a jigsaw. Remember support will
be needed to prevent the cut-out from snapping off. One
method is to screw a piece of wood to the cut-out that
overlaps both sides by around 5 to 6 cm on each side.
Once finished the cut-out can be lifted out and placed
over the side.
3) Preparing the sink
To prepare the sink you might want to first install
the tap, for a guide of how to do that look at
installing a kitchen tap.
Now turn over the sink so it is upside down and put
plumbers putty or silicone around the perimeter on the
underside of the sink.
4) Inserting the sink
Carefully turn the sink back over right-side up and
lower the sink into the cut-out. If the sink is heavy
then get help to lower it into the opening. To avoid
getting fingers caught between the sink and worktop
place a couple of scraps of wood near the edge of the
opening.
5) Completing the fitting
To complete the fitting the sink, connect the sink to
the drain and then connect the taps to the mains water
supply. Remember to turn the water off first and make
sure the water is run through the tap whilst the aerator
is off to clean out the pipes connecting the tap to the
mains water. Run the water for a minute or so to ensure
the pipe is clear.
